Foodie Faves in San Diego: Avocado Toast Edition

There are a few foods you can always find in our home, and avocados are one of them (bananas, eggs, and almond butter round out the list). The heart-healthy fruit is jam-packed with nutrients, flavor, and a deliciously creamy texture—perfect for spreading on toast!

Luckily in San Diego, avocados are readily available, and a delicious side option at most restaurants. I’ve been on the hunt for a perfectly satisfying avocado toast creation around town since coming back from Paris. Something about fresh toast, buttery-smooth avo, and fried eggs makes my stomach rumble.

Looking for the perfect avocado toast for your next brunch? Look no further than the five spots in San Diego below.

Communal Coffee

Flowers, coffee, and delicious bites, this North Park spot is a personal favorite. The space is so bright, airy, and perfect for photographers. I came here to take pictures for my website. If I’m in the area it’s always a spot I recommend for a meeting (free wifi too).

In addition to avocado toast, give the lavender honey toast a try, served on fresh french bread with fresh goat cheese, lavender, and honey.

Sol Cal Cafe

Sol Cal Cafe is a healthy haven serving up gluten free and vegan superfoods and juices. Stop in for breakfast and chow down on their avocado toast (definitely add the egg) or sunrise sampler–half avocado toast and half lox toast. The best of both worlds.

Holy Matcha

Holy Matcha wins for the cutest and pinkest spot in town. I love the decor, bright colors, and of course, the food. In addition to their Instagrammable avocado toast, Holy Matcha bakes up delicious vegan and gluten free donuts, drinks, and matcha soft serve. This is the perfect spot to meet a gal pal for a catch up sesh.

Jake and Eggs

Jake and eggs in OB adds their own floral flair. Bread & Cie multigrain toast is topped with avocado, caramelized onion, two fried eggs, herb salad, lemon vinaigrette, and decorative edible flowers. It’s almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

S3 Coffee Bar

With energy bowls, oatmeal, yogurt, a pastry bar, and a variety of toasts, S3 Coffee Bar on Mission Gorge Road is serving up way more than just your morning latte. The avocado toast includes fresh mozzarella, balsamic reduction, himalayan salt, and rainbow peppercorns. In the mood for something sweet (I always am!)? They also have Nutella toast! Sourdough, nutella, sliced almonds, and you can add strawberries or bananas as well. Hey, if it has fruit, it’s healthy…right? 😉

Parakeet Cafe

I love this cute and cozy spot in La Jolla. Owned by neighboring Juice Crafters, the cafe offers an all-day breakfast menu with a variety of scrambles, waffles, toasts, coffee, and unique eats you won’t find anywhere else. Matcha waffles, anyone?

Back to toast. The selection at Parakeet is one of the biggest in town with both sweet and savory options. Opt for avocado to enjoy pickled mustard, serrano peppers, crunchy mung beans, cilantro, and pumpkin seeds. And always, put an egg on it 🙂 Grab a pal and #flockhere—with so many options, sharing is definitely the way to go.

Better Buzz Coffee Roasters

Life is better buzzed…and with avocado toast. Better Buzz may best be known for coffee, but their pastries, acai bowls, grilled sandwiches, and toasts are pretty tasty too. Give the 3 Seed Avocado a try— thick cut multigrain toast topped with avocado, sesame, chia and hemp seeds, crushed red pepper, micro-greens, and drizzled with lemon.

All this talk of Avocado toast has me dreaming of my next avocado foodie feast. What are some of your favorite avocado toast spots in San Diego? Comment below – I’d love to give them a try!
